Pai — the bohemian valley
Three to four hours and 762 curves up Route 1095 from Chiang Mai, Pai rewards the drive: Pai Canyon's knife-edge ridges at sunset (sturdy shoes; not for vertigo-prone clients), the handmade Boon Ko Ku So bamboo bridge across the paddies (most photogenic when fields glow green, July–October), sunrise mist from Yun Lai viewpoint above the Chinese village of Santichon, Tha Pai hot springs in bamboo forest, the WWII Memorial Bridge and the nightly Walking Street market.
