Thailand's 2027 Holiday and Banking Calendar: What Is Firm, What Is Not

Dispatch No. 392

7 September 2026 · David Leo · Explera Trade Desk · 8 min read

Thailand runs on two 2027 calendars, and only one of them is published yet. The Bank of Thailand has already set the days its financial institutions close — eighteen of them, producing eight long weekends of at least three days. The Cabinet has not yet approved the public holiday list, and it is the Cabinet that adds the bridge days which turn a three-day weekend into a five-day one. If you are quoting 2027 Thailand now, the banking calendar is firm enough to plan settlement against and the public calendar is not firm enough to promise anything.

Two calendars, and why an agent needs both

A Thai public holiday closes offices, schools and government counters. A Bank of Thailand holiday closes the banks. They overlap heavily but they are not the same list, they are announced by different bodies at different times, and they answer different questions for you.

  • The public holiday list tells you what the country is doing. Domestic flights fill, hotels in the beach and mountain provinces tighten, and Bangkok empties outward. It is the demand calendar.
  • The banking list tells you when money moves. A transfer initiated into a closed day does not land that day, and a bank holiday in your own market stacked on a Thai one can push a settlement across most of a week. It is the cash-flow calendar, and it is the one agencies forget.

Most of the year the distinction does not bite. It bites in April and May 2027, and it bites at the New Year, which is where the planning value sits.

What the Bank of Thailand has already set

The central bank has published eighteen holidays for financial institutions in 2027, and reporting on that list counts eight separate long weekends of three days or more. Two of those windows matter more than the rest.

  • The longest nationwide break runs Saturday 1 May to Tuesday 4 May 2027. National Labour Day falls on the Saturday, which pushes its substitute day to Monday 3 May, and Coronation Day sits on Tuesday 4 May. Weekend, substitute, holiday: four consecutive days.
  • Songkran closes the banks 13–15 April 2027, and those days fall Tuesday to Thursday. The festival does not touch a weekend in 2027, which is a materially different commercial shape from a year when it does. We have written the itinerary consequences of that separately in our Songkran 2027 calendar guide; the point here is narrower, that the banks are shut for three working days in the middle of a week.

Around those, the fixed civil dates behave predictably: New Year's Day falls on Friday 1 January 2027, Chakri Day on Tuesday 6 April, Chulalongkorn Day on Saturday 23 October, the 5 December national day on a Sunday, and Constitution Day on Friday 10 December. Two of those — 23 October and 5 December — fall at a weekend, so each generates a substitute weekday.

The Buddhist holy days anchor three of the year's holidays, and they are the three whose 2027 dates are still estimates.

The Buddhist dates are estimates until they are confirmed

Three of the calendar's holidays — Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha and Asarnha Bucha — follow the lunar calendar rather than a fixed civil date. Published 2027 calendars commonly project them into late February, mid-May and mid-July respectively, and those projections are usually right, but they are astronomical calculations rather than an official declaration.

The practical rule is simple. Do not build a client-facing commitment on a projected lunar date more than a season out. If a programme genuinely turns on one — a temple-centred itinerary, a merit-making day, a client who wants to be somewhere specific for Asarnha Bucha — say in writing that the date is expected rather than fixed, and reconfirm once the official list appears. That is the same discipline we apply to any date a Thai authority has not yet gazetted.

What is not settled, and what it means for a quote

The Cabinet approves the public holiday list, and it also decides each year whether to designate extra "bridge" days to manufacture longer weekends for domestic tourism. It has done so in several recent years. It has also declined: an extra-holiday plan for 2026 was rejected. So a bridge day is a live possibility for 2027 and not a plannable fact.

  • Quote against the published banking calendar, not against a projected public one. Payment terms, deposit deadlines and balance dates can be written now with confidence.
  • Leave the long-weekend upside out of the sell. If the Cabinet adds a bridge day later, that is a windfall for domestic demand and a reason to have your allotments already held — not something to promise a client in September 2026.
  • Flag Monday 12 and Friday 16 April 2027 as ordinary working days unless and until they are designated otherwise. Clients assume Songkran is a week. In 2027, officially, it is three midweek days.
  • Watch your own market's calendar too. A Thai bank holiday stacked against a European or Gulf one is where a transfer quietly loses three working days.

How a Thailand DMC works this calendar for you

A ground handler sees the year from the operating side rather than the selling side, which changes what is worth telling you. Long weekends are when domestic aviation prices itself out of a programme, when the Bangkok–Phuket and Bangkok–Chiang Mai legs go first, and when a coach that was easy in a normal week becomes a negotiation. Our Thailand DMC transport team plans around those windows rather than discovering them, and for corporate programmes our MICE and incentives desk treats the holiday list as a first-pass filter on dates before anything is costed.

The settlement side matters just as much. We set out how agencies actually pay us — currencies, receiving accounts and timing — in our guide to how agencies pay a Thailand DMC, and the banking calendar above is the other half of that picture. Full Thailand DMC services for travel agents sit behind one point of contact, whether the programme runs in Bangkok, Phuket or up country.

Agencies in every one of our source markets ask the same question in Q4: which 2027 dates can I sell against. Send the dates you are working to and the trade desk will tell you which are firm, which are projected and which we would not build a departure on yet. Start at our trade desk, and see payment options for how settlement is handled around a closed banking day.

Frequently asked questions

Are Thailand's 2027 public holidays confirmed?

Not in full. The Bank of Thailand has published its 2027 list for financial institutions, but the Cabinet-approved public holiday list — and any extra bridge days — had not been announced when this was written. Treat the fixed civil dates as reliable, the lunar Buddhist dates as projections, and bridge days as unknown.

What is the longest holiday window in Thailand in 2027?

On the published banking calendar it is Saturday 1 May to Tuesday 4 May: the weekend, the substitute day for National Labour Day, and Coronation Day. That is four consecutive days without a Cabinet bridge day being added.

Does Songkran 2027 create a long weekend?

Not on its own. The three official days are Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 April 2027, so they sit in the middle of a working week rather than against a weekend. Monday 12 and Friday 16 April are ordinary working days unless the Cabinet designates them otherwise.

Why does a bank holiday matter if my client is not doing any banking?

Because your agency is. Deposits, balances and supplier settlements move through Thai banks, and a payment initiated into a closed day does not clear that day. When a Thai closure lands next to one in your own market, a routine transfer can lose most of a week — which matters when a balance is due before a departure.

Can I hold 2027 space now against dates that are not final?

Yes, and for the long weekends you should. Allotments in the pressure windows are held long before the Cabinet publishes anything. What you should not do is write a projected date into client-facing terms; hold the space, quote the mechanics, and confirm the date when it is gazetted.

Who should I ask when a 2027 date genuinely decides a programme?

Send it to a ground handler who is already operating that week rather than reading a calendar site. Our trade desk will tell you what is published, what is projected and what we would not commit to yet, and will say plainly when the honest answer is that nobody knows.
