VIJIT Thailand 2026, the Tourism Authority of Thailand's night-time light programme, is running in three provinces this autumn: Lamphun until 4 October, Trang from 2 to 11 October and Roi Et from 9 to 18 October. Each stop has ten illuminated installations built around local heritage. This briefing, from a Thailand DMC for travel agents, sets out the dates and hours, and how to fit an evening at each into a programme that is already passing through the region.

The three stops, with dates and hours
- Lamphun: 25 September to 4 October, 17:00 to midnight. VIJIT @LAMPHUN runs across the old town. Light and sound shows at Tha Nang Gate and at Khum Chao Chakkham Khachonsak play at 19:00, 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00 each night, with fireworks on selected dates.
- Trang: 2 to 11 October, 17:00 to 22:00. VIJIT @TRANG is in Chaloem Phrakiat 95 Public Park in Mueang Trang. Its ten installations are themed on the islands, the dugong, the forest and the province's mix of cultures. Note the earlier closing time.
- Roi Et: 9 to 18 October, 17:00 to midnight. VIJIT Roi Et Illumination is at Bueng Phlan Chai, the lake in the centre of the city, with ten installations on Isan faith and identity. TAT lists fireworks on 9 October at 19:30 and live music on 9 to 11 and 17 to 18 October.
These dates and hours are the ones TAT published for the programme in September. The announcement does not state whether entry is free or ticketed, so confirm that locally before you describe it to a client.
Why it is worth an evening
None of the three is a reason to travel on its own. Each is a reason to stay the night instead of driving through. Lamphun is usually a half-day trip from Chiang Mai: the temple, the old town, back to the hotel for dinner. With the old town lit until midnight, the same visit can become an evening excursion. Trang is a gateway to the Andaman islands, and clients who arrive the day before a boat transfer have an evening to fill. Roi Et sits in the middle of Isan and is rarely an overnight stop on a northeast circuit; a lit lake in the city centre gives clients a reason to stay.

How to fit it into a programme
Lamphun from Chiang Mai. Lamphun is a short drive south of Chiang Mai. For clients staying in Chiang Mai before 4 October, move the Lamphun excursion to the afternoon, add dinner in town and return after one of the light and sound shows. Trang before the islands. Trang has a domestic airport. Clients who fly in the day before an island transfer can spend the evening in the park, which closes at 22:00. Our Trang guide covers the town and the islands offshore.
Roi Et as an Isan overnight. Roi Et also has a domestic airport and lies between Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani on road circuits of the northeast. Between 9 and 18 October, an overnight there gives clients an evening by the lit lake in the centre of town. Our Roi Et guide has the background.
Evening events mean late transfers. Our Thailand DMC transport team can hold a driver for the return, and it is worth asking your Thailand DMC to book dinner near the site, so clients are not looking for a table at 21:00 in a provincial town.
What to check before you sell it
- Weather. This is the end of the rainy season, and parts of the north and northeast had flood warnings in late September. Rain can cut an outdoor evening short, so reconfirm on the day and keep an indoor dinner as the fallback.
- Entry. TAT has not published admission details. Do not promise a free event until it is confirmed.
- Closing times. Lamphun and Roi Et run until midnight and Trang until 22:00. Plan the driver's hours around the return, not the start.
