Bangkok Ranked No. 1 City by Condé Nast Traveller Readers: What the Result Means for Agents

Dispatch No. 488

10 October 2026 · David Leo · Explera Trade Desk · 4 min read

Bangkok has been ranked first among cities in Condé Nast Traveller's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards, with 97.68 points to Paris's 97.14, according to The Nation's report of the ranking published on 6 October. In 2025 Bangkok was not in the top 20, and Valletta won. It is a readers' poll, not an inspection or a market study, so use it as supporting colour for a client who already wants a city stay, not as a reason on its own. This briefing, from a Thailand DMC for travel agents, sets out what was reported and how to use it in a quote.

Explera DMC is a TAT-licensed ground handler (TAT licence 14/05119, IATA 96215733) trusted by 2,380+ agency partners, with in-house transport, licensed guides and 24/7 support. Reach the trade desk at b2b@explera.co.th.

What was reported

The Nation reports Bangkok on 97.68 points, ahead of Paris on 97.14, Istanbul on 96.67 and Rome on 95.96, with Valletta fifth. Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul took sixth to eighth places and Singapore was 20th. Bangkok is the only Thai city in the reported top 20, and the report names no other Thai destination. The Nation describes the poll as the readers' vote of the magazine's British edition, and SiViaggia, an Italian travel site, reports the same scores and calls it the 39th edition of the awards. Neither article gives the number of voters, and we have not seen Condé Nast's own page, so word it as "ranked first among cities by Condé Nast Traveller readers", with the year, and no more.

How to read it

A readers' ranking measures what people who read the magazine say they liked. A move from outside the top 20 to first in one year is a swing in sentiment, not a change in the product, and a poll can swing back. It is also not the only recent result: TAT reported in March that Bangkok was named best city in Asia by DestinAsian readers for the third year running, ahead of Tokyo and Singapore. Two reader polls pointing the same way is a better sales line than either alone, as long as you name each one.

Where it helps a quote

Because The Nation describes this as the British edition's poll, it is most useful with UK clients already weighing a city stay. Our Virgin Atlantic Heathrow to Phuket briefing covers how that market flies, and our Bangkok versus Phuket briefing helps you decide which to lead with. The award says nothing about room availability, queues or prices on your client's dates, so do not imply that it does. Ask your Thailand DMC to build the stay around what clients actually praise in Bangkok, such as the river, food, markets and temples, and to confirm what is open and bookable on the travel dates. Our Bangkok destination guide sets out the districts, our hotel bookings team handles reservations, and every other service is on our Thailand DMC services page.
