The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Tripadvisor signed a letter of intent in Bangkok on 14 October 2026 to work together on destination marketing, traveller insight and digital promotion for 2027. Explera DMC Thailand explains what the agreement covers, what it does not yet say, and why agents should keep an eye on it.
Explera handles ground arrangements as a Thailand DMC for travel agents. Its Thai company, Explera DMC Co., Ltd., holds TAT licence 14/05119, the Tourism Business Licence issued by the Department of Tourism, and the group is IATA TIDS-registered (96215733) and a member of ASTA (900408341). What did TAT and Tripadvisor sign?
According to TAT, the letter was signed by Parichat Boonclai, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, and Scott Wegener, Director of Enterprise Sales, Asia Pacific, at Tripadvisor. It sets out a framework for promoting Thailand's image and TAT campaigns on Tripadvisor, exchanging data and insight on how travellers behave, and using digital channels to raise the profile of Thai destinations and businesses.
How does it fit TAT's plan for 2027?
TAT has named 2027 its "Year of Transformation", and the letter sits under the plan's "Transform Together" strand, which is about working with partners across the tourism industry rather than only promoting destinations. Our briefing on TAT's 2027 plan covers the plan in full.
What does the agreement not say yet?
A letter of intent states a shared aim; it is not a contract. The announcement gives no campaign dates, budgets or new services for travellers, so there is nothing for an agent to book or price yet. Treat it as a direction of travel and watch for the first joint campaigns in 2027.
Why should agents pay attention?
Many leisure clients read traveller reviews before they commit to a hotel, a tour or a restaurant, and an agent's advice is often weighed against them. If TAT uses Tripadvisor to promote less-visited destinations and new experiences, clients may arrive already curious about places beyond the usual first-trip route. A Thailand DMC with people on the ground can tell you which of those places are ready for your clients, and our destination guides are a good place to start.
