Two dated changes reshape which Bangkok airport your clients land at this autumn, and one of them is a partial restoration rather than the full return the headline suggests. From 15 September 2026 flydubai doubles its Dubai–Don Mueang service to twice daily. From 1 October 2026 Thai AirAsia resumes domestic flying from Suvarnabhumi — but with three routes, not the nine it suspended in July. If you have autumn files routing through Bangkok, both dates change the answer you give.
Explera DMC Thailand is the ground partner behind these files for agencies worldwide — IATA 96215733, 340+ agency partners, and a trade desk on b2b@explera.co.th that answers with what is actually operating rather than what was announced.
What changes, and on which date
Two carrier moves, both with firm dates and both affecting Bangkok:
- flydubai, from 15 September 2026. The Dubai–Don Mueang route that opened on 1 July 2026 at one flight a day goes to twice daily. Reporting puts the resulting Dubai–Thailand ceiling at 28 flights a week; treat that total as needing confirmation, since it is not stated whether it counts flydubai alone or every carrier on the city pair.
- Thai AirAsia, from 1 October 2026. Domestic flying returns to Suvarnabhumi with Chiang Mai at six daily, Phuket at five daily and Krabi at two daily. The airline keeps its dual-airport shape in Bangkok — reported as twenty-two direct routes from Don Mueang alongside the three from Suvarnabhumi.

The second one needs reading carefully, which is the point of this briefing.
Nine went out, three come back
Thai AirAsia suspended all nine of its Suvarnabhumi routes between 15 July and 30 September 2026, moving those domestic services to Don Mueang for the duration. What returns on 1 October is three routes. "Thai AirAsia returns to Suvarnabhumi" is true and it is not a restoration of the July position.
For an agent that distinction is the whole story. A client booked on a Suvarnabhumi domestic connection that was moved to Don Mueang in July does not automatically move back on 1 October — only Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi have a Suvarnabhumi option again. Everything else stays at Don Mueang, on the far side of the city.
Why the map is moving at all
Both changes sit inside the same pressure. Thai carriers have spent this year trimming and reshuffling capacity against a sharp rise in jet fuel costs, with route cuts reported across Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air and Thai AirAsia. Consolidating nine routes into one Bangkok airport for a quarter is what an airline does when it is protecting cost per departure, not when it is growing.
Read the two announcements together and they say different things. The flydubai frequency increase is demand-led and inbound — a Gulf market the national tourism board has been working hard. The AirAsia return is a carrier restoring a slice of what it withdrew, timed for the fourth quarter and the year-end high season. Neither is a reason to assume the autumn schedule is settled.
How to quote against a moving schedule
- Confirm the airport, not just the flight. A Bangkok domestic segment booked months out may sit at a different airport than the one your itinerary says. Check it again before the client travels, not once at booking.
- Never let a schedule change become a separate-ticket problem. A carrier moving a leg between Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi turns a comfortable connection into a cross-city transfer. Our Bangkok airport connections briefing covers how much slack that actually needs.
- Price the transfer for the airport you end up at. The two airports sit on opposite sides of Bangkok and a transfer time quoted from habit will be wrong. That is ordinary Thailand DMC services for travel agents work, and our Thailand DMC transport team quotes it against the real airport.
- Treat a brand-new frequency as provisional. A second daily rotation added in September is a commercial decision that can be reassessed. Know the fallback routing before you sell the new one.
- Say the date out loud to the client. "From 15 September" and "from 1 October" are the useful form. A client told a route exists, without the date it starts, will book the week before it does.
Which files this actually touches
Gulf and Middle East programmes gain real seat capacity into Bangkok from mid-September, which matters most for the long-stay, privacy-first files that market books — see our source-markets guidance for how those programmes are built. Domestic add-ons to Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi gain a Suvarnabhumi option from 1 October, which shortens arrival day for a client flying in long-haul to that airport. Every other domestic point stays at Don Mueang, so an itinerary built on last year's assumption needs rechecking rather than reusing.

What the ground partner carries here
Schedule changes are only a problem when they surface late. As a Thailand DMC we hold the arrival and departure detail on live files and flag the ones a carrier move has broken, rather than leaving an agent to discover it from a client at the airport. Send the routings you are holding for autumn to the trade desk at b2b@explera.co.th, or reach us on WhatsApp at +66 93 656 8090, and we will tell you which segments have moved airport and what the transfer really takes. For anything larger, our trade desk turns it into a client-ready answer.
Frequently asked questions
Does Thai AirAsia's return mean my client's Suvarnabhumi domestic flight is back?
Only if it is Chiang Mai, Phuket or Krabi. Nine routes were suspended on 15 July and three resume on 1 October, so the rest remain at Don Mueang. Check the specific segment rather than assuming the July position is restored.
What is the practical effect of flydubai going twice daily?
More Gulf seat capacity into Bangkok from 15 September, and a second daily rotation that makes same-day misconnect recovery possible on that city pair where before there was one chance a day. It lands at Don Mueang, not Suvarnabhumi, which matters for anything connecting.
Why are Thai carriers moving routes between the two Bangkok airports at all?
Cost. Reporting through this year points at a sharp rise in jet fuel prices and consequent route trimming across several Thai airlines. Consolidating routes into one Bangkok base for a quarter protects cost per departure. Expect further adjustment rather than a settled map.
How far ahead should we reconfirm a Bangkok domestic segment?
Reconfirm before the client travels rather than only at booking, and specifically reconfirm the airport rather than the flight number. Both of this autumn's changes move flying between airports rather than cancelling it, so a booking can stay valid while the airport under it changes.
Can Explera rebuild a transfer if a segment changes airport?
Yes — that is standard ground-handling work for us. Send the file to b2b@explera.co.th and we will requote the transfer against the airport the segment actually operates from, including the cross-city case where a connection has become a transfer.
