MotoGP Thailand 2027: Buriram Opens the Season from 5 to 7 March, and How to Sell Race Week

Dispatch No. 482

7 October 2026 · David Leo · Explera Trade Desk · 5 min read

MotoGP will open its 2027 season at the Thai Grand Prix in Buriram from 5 to 7 March 2027, at the Chang International Circuit. It is the third year running that Thailand hosts the first race of the season, and the first race held under the new technical rules for 2027 to 2031. This briefing, from a Thailand DMC for travel agents, sets out what was confirmed, why the race week fills Buriram, and how to build a race package for motorsport clients and corporate groups.

What was confirmed

MotoGP announced the date on 31 July 2026, ahead of the rest of the 2027 calendar. The race weekend runs from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 March, with practice and qualifying before Sunday's race. 2027 is the first season of new technical rules, with smaller 850cc engines, so the opening round is the first time the new bikes race. Thailand is under contract to host a MotoGP round until 2031, which makes the Buriram race one of the few fixed sports dates you can plan years ahead.

What race week does to Buriram

Buriram is a provincial city in the northeast, and its hotel stock is small for an event of this size. Rooms in the city fill well before race week, and some groups stay further out and drive in each day. Most international clients fly from Bangkok to Buriram Airport on a domestic flight, or travel by road, which takes several hours. Expect domestic flights around the race weekend to fill early too. Book rooms and flights as soon as the client commits, and plan the daily transfer between hotel and circuit, because roads near the circuit are busy before and after each session.

How to sell it

Motorsport clients want good grandstand or hospitality seats, a hotel close to the circuit and reliable transfers. Corporate groups can use the race as an incentive, with a hospitality package at the circuit and a day out in the region. Add a cultural day: the Khmer temple at Phanom Rung is within reach of Buriram, and a few nights in Bangkok before or after make the long flight worth it. Ask your Thailand DMC to confirm race tickets and hospitality before you fix the hotel; a Thailand DMC with its own vehicles can run the daily circuit transfers. Our Buriram destination guide covers the province, our guide to sports tourism in Thailand covers the wider calendar, our transport team runs the transfers, our MICE team builds incentive programmes, and every other service is on our Thailand DMC services page.
