Thailand Biennale Rayong 2027: Curators and Title Named for the December 2027 to April 2028 Edition

Dispatch No. 483

9 October 2026 · David Leo · Explera Trade Desk · 5 min read

The fifth Thailand Biennale will be held in Rayong, on the eastern seaboard, from December 2027 to April 2028, and in September 2026 the organisers named its artistic director, its curators and its title, "Sin-Samudr, Turning Currents". Exact opening dates and venues have not yet been published. This briefing, from a Thailand DMC for travel agents, sets out what has been announced, what it means for Rayong, and how to plan art and culture programmes around it.

Explera DMC is a TAT-licensed ground handler (TAT licence 14/05119, IATA 96215733) trusted by 2,380+ agency partners, with in-house transport, licensed guides and 24/7 support. Reach the trade desk at b2b@explera.co.th.

What was announced

The Thailand Biennale is the country's national contemporary art exhibition, run by the Ministry of Culture, and it moves to a different province for each edition; Rayong follows Phuket. The artistic director is Baan Noorg, an artist-run collective led by jiradej and pornpilai meemalai, working with curators Emily Shin-Jie Lee, Gesyada Siregar and Tyuki Imamura. The title, "Sin-Samudr, Turning Currents", points to the sea and to the meeting of local and global. Earlier editions placed works across their host province, in towns, temples, beaches and public spaces, rather than in one gallery.

What it means for Rayong

Rayong is about three hours by road from Bangkok. It is known for its fruit orchards, its fishing towns, its industrial estates and the island of Koh Samet, and U-Tapao Airport lies within the province. The biennale gives clients a reason to stay in Rayong rather than pass through it. Because the venues are not yet known, do not promise specific works or sites. Plan around the season instead: the exhibition runs through the cool and dry months, which suit outdoor sites and island stays.

How to sell it

Art and culture clients can combine the biennale with Bangkok's own art scene and a few nights by the sea. Special-interest groups, such as museum friends, design schools and collectors, can take a guided programme across several sites in a day. Ask your Thailand DMC to hold the programme loosely until the venue list is published, then fix the route; a Thailand DMC with its own vehicles can link sites that are spread across the province. Our Rayong destination guide covers the province, our Bangkok Art Biennale briefing covers this winter's art season in the capital, our tours team builds guided programmes, and every other service is on our Thailand DMC services page.
